A coupling is a machine element and connects individual components within a system, e.g. motor, gear and drive machine. You transfer the rotary motion or torque from the drive to the machine.

There are a large number of coupling variants, these perform different tasks such as:

Dampen shocks and vibrations, separate and restore the force flow, compensate for radial, axial and angular misalignments, limit torques, interrupt the drive when the maximum torque is exceeded.
