S-SMART (Smart System)

The S-SMART series linear units have been designed to allow vertical movement in gantry style or for applications where the aluminium profile is movable and the carriage is fixed.

The range includes linear units with self-supporting extruded aluminium profiles, available in three sizes from 50 to 80 mm. It is a rigid system ideal for creating a Z-axis by using a linear guide rail.

In addition, the S-SMART series has been designed and configured to be mounted together with the R-SMART series by using a simple bracket.

Extruded profile: The anodised aluminium extrusions used for the housings of the Rollon S-SMART series linear units have been designed and manufactured in collaboration with a leading company in this field, in order to obtain the right combination of high mechanical strength and reduced weight. The 6060 alloy used for the anodised aluminium (see below for physical and chemical characteristics) has been extruded with dimensional tolerances that comply with the EN 755-9 standard.

Drive Belt: The linear units of the S-SMART series use steel-reinforced polyurethane timing belts with AT tooth profile. This type of timing belt has proven to be the most suitable for drive transmission in linear units in terms of permissible drive torques, compactness and noise generation. The combination with zero backlash timing belt pulleys thus enables alternating loads without backlash. The following properties can be achieved by utilising the maximum timing belt width specified by the profile and setting an optimum belt pretension:

  • High travel speeds
  • Low noise emission
  • Low wear and tear

Carriage: The carriage of the linear units of the S-SMART series is made of anodised aluminium.
